Universally Used Modern Furniture

Furniture is a mass noun used to portable objects that are used to make our day to day activities convenient. Objects like chairs, tables, beds, sofas and stools are collectively called furniture as they can be used for sitting, sleeping, placing objects and storing. Furniture can be designed and mass produced using any material such as wood, plastic and even glass. Furniture can also be used to add a touch of aesthetic value to the place. Though there are innumerable amounts or designs and characteristics of modern furniture given below are some types used universally.

Any piece of furniture that is predominantly designed for sitting falls under this category. The first thing that comes to your mind, when talking about furniture used for sitting is obviously, the chair. Chairs are either designed for single seating or multiple seating. Rocking chair, stools, dining chairs, recliners and bar stools are made for single seating while benches, couches and settees are intended for multiple seats.

Furniture used as surfaces are employed to place objects for convenient reaching. All sorts of tables fall under this set. An indoor or outdoor coffee table, changing tables, dining tables, desks, working benches and pedestals are some such furniture. Usually a table is accompanied with one or a set of chaise. Therefore, when purchasing a table it comes as a set which has to be purchased as whole.

One of the most diverse types of furniture, storage furniture is used for the purpose of storing objects that can be used later. Racks, book cases, cabinets, closets, cupboards, pantries, drawers and night stands belong to this kind of furniture. One might argue that an outdoor coffee table also can serve the same purpose as storage, but while they do that, they wouldn’t protect the storage goods from the climatic damages.

Sleeping and lying

Beds and mattresses fall under this category. A bed is a type of furniture used to sleep or relax. Every bed room consists of a bed with a mattress. In purchasing, some beds come with what is called a “bedroom set” which includes every other furniture useful in a bedroom. Infant cradles, the traditional Japanese sleeping mattress called the futon and hammocks which can be hung both indoors and outdoors are also furniture designed for sleeping or lying.

Undoubtedly, furniture had made our lives easier and more efficient. The new designs and patterns of furniture not only eases our life but also adds an aesthetic value. We cannot imagine a life where we have to sit on the floor in order to type a document using a laptop.
